Kuala Lumpur: <\/strong>The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) marked a significant milestone with its 100th Board of Trustees Meeting<\/strong> on 28 May 2024 at the MTCC office in Kuala Lumpur. This meeting signifies a remarkable achievement in governance of Malaysia\u2019s forest certification and highlights MTCC’s steadfast dedication to sustainable forestry practices over the past quarter-century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaired by MTCC Chairman, YB Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, the meeting was a testament to the council’s collaborative spirit. It brought together representatives from government bodies, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, and industry players. This assembly of diverse organisations and entities showcased MTCC’s unwavering commitment to engaging with various stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to Malaysia\u2019s forest management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception, MTCC has been at the forefront of championing sustainable forest management in Malaysia. The council’s flagship initiative, the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), has played a pivotal role in promoting responsible forest management practices and ensuring the credibility of certified timber products. The recent issuance of five new Forest Management Certificates between January to May 2024, covering over 534,000 hectares,<\/strong> further demonstrates MTCC’s ongoing efforts to expand the country’s sustainable forestry reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The numbers speak for themselves: with a total certified forest area now exceeding 6.7 million hectares and exports of MTCS-certified timber reaching across 76 destinations,<\/strong> MTCC’s impact is undeniable. These figures reflect the growing global demand for sustainably sourced timber and showcase Malaysia’s leadership in responsible forest management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As MTCC celebrates its 25th anniversary, the 100th Board of Trustees Meeting serves as a reminder of the council’s enduring legacy and unwavering commitment to a sustainable future for Malaysia’s forests.
