MTCC wishes to inform you that the MTCC Board of Trustees has approved the adoption of the newly developed PEFC EUDR Due Diligence System (DDS) standard, <\/a>PEFC ST 2002-1:2024 Requirements for the Implementation of PEFC EUDR Due Diligence System (PEFC EUDR DDS)<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This standard is an extension of the existing PEFC Chain of Custody standard PEFC ST 2002:2020 \u2013 Chain of Custody of Forest and Tree-Based Products – Requirements. This modular (optional) standard<\/strong> is designed to support PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) companies that currently export to the EU market, plan to do so, or whose products may ultimately be sold in the EU to comply with the requirements of the EUDR by providing a comprehensive framework for conducting due diligence under the PEFC scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key difference between the existing PEFC ST 2002:2020 standard and the PEFC ST 2002-1:2024 is the integration of EUDR requirements into the due diligence process. These changes can be categorised into the following five areas:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Definitions<\/td>Additional definitions related to EUDR such as operator, trader, Union   Market, SME, relevant product, competent authority, member states etc. Additional forest-related definitions such as deforestation, forest degradation, agricultural plantation, plantation forest, plot of land, regenerating forest etc.  <\/td><\/tr>
Information Gathering<\/td>Requirements to gather EUDR reference numbers and\/or PEFC EUDR claims.Requirement to collect geolocation data for the harvesting area.EUDR DDS is \u201cbackwards compatible\u201d with the DDS.    <\/td><\/tr>
Risk Assessment<\/td>Requirements concerning geolocation, harvesting date range, legality, and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC).Compliance with the 31 December 2020 cut-off date.The incorporation of the EU substantiated concerns.Requirement to collect geolocation data for the harvesting area.  <\/td><\/tr>
Risk Mitigation  <\/td>Requirement to establish policies and procedures for mitigating and managing identified risks.Risk mitigation details shall be made available to the competent.Organisations may conduct second or third-party audits along the supply chain in cases of significant risk supplies.  <\/td><\/tr>
Substantiated Concerns<\/td>Requirement for organisations to inform competent authorities in case of substantiated concerns, with a specified timeframe to initiate investigations.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, MTCC will be organising a series of briefing sessions focusing on the compliance aspects of PEFC and EUDR DDS, as outlined in the table below. Interested parties are invited to register for their preferred dates and locations as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
