Royal Selangor Supports Sustainable Forest Management <\/em><\/strong><\/span>With <\/em><\/strong><\/span>MTCS Chain of Custody Certification<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Kuala Lumpur, 9 Aug 2017<\/strong> \u2013 Royal Selangor, an established and iconic brand committed to producing the finest pewter products for over 130 years, is extending its leadership role  by embracing sustainability of the source of wood materials used for its pewter wares.  <\/p>\n

The pursuit of sustainability culminated in Royal Selangor successfully obtaining the Chain of Custody (CoC) Certification under the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS).  The MTCS is a national timber certification scheme for sustainability developed and operated by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC). Since its implementation in 2001, and as of 30 June 2017, a total of 4.1 million hectares or 28% of total Permanent Reserved Forests and 355 timber companies have been certified under the MTCS.<\/p>\n

This CoC certification enables Royal Selangor to label all its wood-based pewter wares attesting compliance of its wooden components to sustainability requirements under the MTCS.  The use of the MTCC\/PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) label on its products will further strengthen Royal Selangor\u2019s global presence since MTCS-certified materials are recognised by 38 member countries endorsed by the PEFC.  <\/p>\n

The MTCS Chain of Custody Certificate was presented to Royal Selangor by the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, at the Royal Selangor headquarters. <\/p>\n

Speaking at the Certificate Presentation Ceremony, Datuk Seri Mah said, \u201cThe timber sector contributed RM21.86 billion to the country\u2019s export earnings in 2016 and continues to take Malaysia to the global level through its ranking as one of the world\u2019s top exporters of tropical timber products.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very pleased to see an established and iconic brand such as Royal Selangor embracing sustainability of the source of material used for their products. It is my hope that more organisations will follow in the footsteps of Royal Selangor in obtaining timber certification and to have more products in Malaysia become certified and internationally recognised,\u201d added Datuk Seri Mah.<\/p>\n

“As a proud Malaysian company, it is our responsibility to preserve our country’s natural resources and heritage especially in today’s manufacturing environment by supporting conservation efforts of organisations such as the Malaysian Nature Society, MYCAT and WWF Malaysia. Towards this end, we are pleased to be working with MTCC to ensure all wood components for our products are 100% sourced from certified forests in Malaysia,” said Executive Director of Royal Selangor International, Mr Yong Yoon Li.<\/p>\n

“With the MTCS-PEFC certification, it is our duty to make it clear to our customers with responsible labelling as customers have the right to know about the environmental impact of the products they purchase,” added Yong.<\/p>\n
