MTCC & PEFC
International
The Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC) serves as Malaysia’s National Governing Body (NGB) within the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), representing Malaysia in the global PEFC alliance of national forest certification systems.
As a NGB member of PEFC, MTCC is responsible for developing and operating the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), and for submitting and maintaining the MTCS for PEFC endorsement.
PEFC first endorsed MTCS on 1 May 2009, making it the first tropical forest certification scheme in the Asia Pacific region to achieve PEFC endorsement. MTCS was re-endorsed on 29 July 2014 and successfully maintained its endorsement on 1 June 2021.
To maintain its PEFC endorsement, MTCS is subject to periodic review every five years. The certification standards are reviewed in light of new scientific knowledge and practical experience to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with global best practices.
MTCC's Role
as NGC
As NGB and national member of PEFC, MTCC develops and administers MTCS across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak. Key responsibilities include:
